PSA

Today in CyberARTS we had to make a PSA about a social issue in are community, we chose physical abuse because it happens everyday and it is rarely reported. The purpose of this video is to inform people that abuse is happening and we can stand up to it. We have provided a website and a 24 hour helpline for people who want to take action they can get more information.

Digital Surrealiam

For my digital surrealism assignment I have created a not so clear  message, the message is even if someone has a learning disability they can still do other complicated tasks. I have a personal experience because my brother has dyslexia, a learning disability where he reads words differently, when he reads a sentence the letters are all mixed up and that doesn't  stop him. He is still fully capable to do complicated tasks such as chess and robotics, which he excels  at. You can't under estimate someone with a learning disability.
With my digital surrealism assignment I have used a variety of photography's to create a creative photo bridging between realism and surrealism in a well planned photography designed on photoshop.
I have used three final photography's but I had toke over fifty to get just the right three photography's. The three photography's are the chess board, Henry and a picture of my brothers writing. In the photography I used a consisted lighting and blended the photos so they look as one.
With my surrealism I had difficulties along the way because when I was in the planning stage I had so many ideas to go with  it but then I realized I had to back to reality and some wouldn't work.My main challenge was getting the full idea across because some people won't know that the boy in the picture has a learning disability and when they look at the photography they'll see a teenager with words imprinted on his face, it won't make sense. Now I can't change my idea because I had got that far, so I came up with ideas to make the message more clear. I decided to add my brothers writing on the chess pieces to create more unity and to make more of a connection with  my message.
In photoshop I used different layers and tools to make the photo look as natural as possible but it won't look perfect. When I did this I had ideas and when I started working n it I realized It would not be possible so I tried other ideas and this is what I was able to do. My original idea was to put the blending writing on my brothers face and have him placed on the chess board as if he is a chess piece on the board.

PSA About domestic Violence

Today in CyberARTS we were told to find a PSA on a social issue and I found this video about domestic violence. When we were looking for the video we were to think about three questions: What is the main focus of the video? (i.e. the impact of prejudice, discrimination, systemic discrimination, racial slurs?).
Describe how the video gets this point across.
What techniques are used in the video to help convince the viewer of the point of the video. (Look at shots, music, content, text, voice, voice-over, sound fx etc.)

The main focus of the video is to show that domectic violence always is around and we can only stop it if we all try. We can't take advantage of the people in are lives and expect to get away with it.In the video it shows Kiera Knightly coming home from here acting job and getting abused by here boyfriend, but she does say one line " This isin't part of the script" and the male actor ignores her and gets violent. This almost states that domestic violence isin't part of are normal lives so why do we even have domestic violence?
It's somthing to think about. Some of the techniques that are used in the PSA to get the message across is relating the situation to a script and movie actors and actresses because some people may not like what is shown in movies but it is the directors choice. They also use close-ups of of the abused to show the reaction she is feeling with this happening to her. Last they also don't add extras and voice overs, they make the video effects simple For example simple shots, and the actors/actresses say very fews lines but they are strong, important and they make sense.

Optical Devices

                                                                Chromatrope

Today in cyberARTS we were supposed to find a Optical device and comment on the layout of the website, what your favorite toy is and how it works. I chose the Chromatrope device. The Chromatrope Device was made 29 years after Brewster invented the similar  kaleidoscope in 1817. The Chromatrope is made out of pieces of glass with different colorful designs which move around by the handle which is semi attached to the glass pieces. When a light is behind the Chromatrope the designs are projected.
The website I got this information from was called Laura Hayes and John Howard Wileman
This site was very helpful and had lots of other Optical device toys that you could learn about, so go check out this site.

Photo Sharing site

Today in CyberARTS were given the task to find a free web site where you can upload and share media. I found Photo bucket, it is similar to flickr and vuvox but photo bucket has a few extra applications that flickr and vuvox both don't have. These are 3D cards where you can use your uploaded photos and create cards that you can share. Scrapbooks where you can create a virtual scrapbook with all your memories with out the time and effort if cutting paper and gluing over and over. With photo bucket you can also create slideshows and videos like on flickr and vuvox. With photo bucket you can treat your account as a website of your photos because you can customize your account with color themes and more. This is why I like Photo bucket.

Artist Statement

                                Artist Statement

The chess piece I have chosen is the rook because when it was in the right spot, the chess piece had lot's of shading and different values in the shading. And with more shading and value I thought I could make the chess piece more realistic because that's the whole point of the assignment. Although the background is not realistic because it is a broken chessboard it makes the background more balanced and still keeps the focus on the chess piece. For my drawing I have used a few principles of design such as rhythm, contrast, movement, and asymmetrical balance. I have shown rhythm with my background because you follow each strip of the chess board off the page but another strip brings you back on the page and so on, the focus is still on the drawing itself. I have shown contrast because although I have only used pencil, I have used different shades and values to make the chess piece stand out from the faded background. I have shown movement because my background carries you along the page and brings you to the focus; the chess piece. The drawing flows together. Last I have shown asymmetrical balance because I haven’t put the rook right in the middle of the page , I have thrown off the balance just enough to make the drawing more pleasing and enjoyable to look at up close and from afar.
In the background we were supposed to create a pattern(s) that use different lines and shapes. Now I have used I simple background because I feel if the background is to intricate  and cluttered it will take the focus away from the main point of the assignment; the chess piece. I have used the theme chess and exaggerated the board to create a pattern and to add change to my drawing, that is why I chose the broken chess board. The chess board resembles water and how all the waves flow and crash together, it's soothing and attracting. When I started thinking about this assignment and planning I had millions of idea's but then reality came and I realized I wouldn't be able to show all my idea's. But I am pleased with my end result, especially with how my rook chess piece came out because near the start I was having problems making sure the lines were all parallel to each other so my chess peice wasn't leaning to one side. And for the background I wasn't sure if I should make the chess board light so the chess peice is still the focus or darken the board to show what a chess board really looks like, but then the drawing and shading values of the rook would be lost.
But hopefully you like the final result. Enjoy!

In class today we had a guest artist come and help us make are own medallions. Now my medallion has a specail meaning and the symbols on it mean certain things. The fancy "M" is the astrolgy sign for virgo which is my birth month. The two curvy lines between the top of the wings is the universal sign for water. And the wings repersent flying. This all comes together to say that I want to bring clean and drinkable water to all poverty countries around the world. Hope you like!!!!!!!

Logo Analysis

Logo Analysis

The company I have chosen is Interior Design. I would design the interior of houses, restaurants and Condo’s. I can completely redo a space or add a few touches to complete a room or space. I would focus on designing the seating and living area of the space but would expand and do kitchens and bathrooms. I can do past, future and present.
Two adjectives that describe the personality and the style of my company are modern and green. So, I create comfortable and calm settings with eco-friendly materials that will help cut down on our Eco footprint. I will also harmonize with the environment to make you feel as one with the room.

The animal that I think best describes my company is the dragonfly. The dragonfly symbolises sense of self, purity, positive forces, strength, harmony and power of life. And what I will design sends these messages. You feel positive forces keeping you at peace in your home/restaurants/Condo. I also feel that dragonflies symbolise freedom and space to live, so I use everything around me to design the room. Some facts about dragonflies are they have six legs like any other insect but can‘t walk well with their legs. They mostly eat mosquitoes but sometimes eat flies, bees, ants and rarely butterflies. Also the Greek word for dragonfly is Anisoptera which means not equal wings.

For my first logo I have chosen the brush stroke of a paint stroke which sends a calm vibe about my company. The line is not hard and straight it varies in thickness which also sends a relaxed message because I don’t focus on one particular idea or area, I let it flow and expand the interior that I am designing. I’ve used green because I’m an Eco-friendly company, and green symbolises nature/ecology and relaxation which I create in my interiors. All the lines fade in and out and create a rhythm that keeps moving around the outline of my logo. The shape of my logo is a dragonfly but I have used different shapes to create the logo such as circular rectangles, circles and ovals that create design on the logo. With my typographic logo it is only letters, but the letter style I have chosen lets your eyes flow through the writing and is legible. The colors I have used are black and green because my whole theme of my company is Eco-friendly so I wanted to keep that theme alive in all my logos. The combined logo has my pictorial logo put in as the “i” in design so the logo still looks visually pleasing. The type is legible and clear and the logo is not overlapping any of the letters so it doesn’t look crowded.

I have used many principles of design in my varies logos, such as in the pictorial I have used contrast because I have chosen two colors that make each other stand out like black and white, and green and white. I have used movement because the brush stroke I have chosen varies in thickness around the outline and your eye follows that outline which identifies it as a dragonfly. I have also used proportion because I have made wings of the dragonfly shaped to proportion the outline correctly. In my typographic logo I have used emphasis because all the letters in the logo are black except for the “i” in design which is connected to the “s”  in Sense and the “f” in Of. I have used movement because the letters flow across the page, there is a distinct path with the s, f and I. I have used balance because all the letters have the same thickness through out. In my pictorial and typographic logo I have shown emphasis because I have turned the letter “i”  in design to my logo of the dragonfly, which resembles the shape of an “i”. I’ve shown texture because the brush stroke I have chosen is a paint brush which creates rough looking texture that you can almost feel.

I feel my typographic and pictorial combined color logo best represents my company.  It shows the two main points that help identify my company to clients; what the name of my company is and what my logo theme is. In this logo I have chosen a legible font that is clear and catches your eye. I have created an eco-friendly feel with my animal choice and color. I have used negative space to shape my logo in the most effective spot. This logo can work in color, black and white and can be reproduced many times and still have the same appeal as the original. The logo can also be enlarged to go on posters and made small enough to fit on business cards, the logo will not become a blob.

Charcoal Grid

"The Third Class Carriage"
By Duamier

Today in CyberArts we had to take this charcoal grid we worked on in class by individualy shading each square with charchol and putting all the squares together to create the painting of " The Third Class Carriage" by Duamier and crop, rotate and color correct the photo to make it look as realistic and crisp as possible. This is my final project, hope you like it!

Line drawings

In cyberArts today we had to create two lines drawing one where the lines are the same direction and line type, but only vary in thickness and distance between one anther. The second one can have any lines and can vary in direction, quality, type and position

My first line drawing shows rhythm because the line cuts into a box at the same spot on each line as if they are identical, I just varied the size and thickness of the lines. The lines almost look like a heartbeat , an repetitive heart beat or different a beat in a song that repeats in the same spot. This works for the first assignment because it is pleasing to the eye and it's the same repeated line just varying in the thickness.

My second drawing shows rhythum because the lines keep             moving and don't stop, as if they are a continous song playing over and over, but it dosen't get annoying. Also when they overlap it feels like everything is coming together for a brief moment then life will move on. Now I could of chose doing curvy or edgy lines but I felt that plain straight lines going in different directions would attract the eye in the same way.

Company names: Dragonfly Design, Dragonfly Interior, Sense of design.

The company I have chosen is Interior Design. I would design the interior of houses, restuarants and condos. I can completely redo a space or ad a few touches to complete a room or space. I did some research of my competitors and here are three links to these websites:

Celine Interiors - This website was simple, she used the main colors orange and a faded gray. She used simple Ariel Narrow text  so the person looking at her website could understand the text. Although she did use a bold upper case 'C' in orange to get your attention.

Inside Out Design- This website used two of the primary colors, blue and red but used two shades of blue; a light and dark shade. The logo is interesting too because they take a circle and stick a thick line in the middle almost to show a person in the circle, they sandwich the red between the two shades of blue.
These are the main colors used in the whole website and they are used in a way to attract people to there website.

Mackay Wong- This website uses brown, black and white in there logo in an interesting way.The logo is just there  initials  in a square, a simple design, but it attracts the eye . There whole website follows these color and layouts, except she put a strip of red across the top which throws off the color scheme, but it doesn't fully take your attention away.

Art Critique

In CyberARTS today we were given an assignment to critique a piece of art on three things, Imitation Qualities, Formaition Qualities and emotion qualities. I chose A piece of art called "Rain, Steam and   Speed-The great Western Railway" by Turner.

The painting shows imitation qualities because near the left corner you can see distant detail of the front of a train on a railway coming out of the distance. You can also see a faint design of a bridge almost as if the train has passed the bend, coming out of the vanishing point. The artist has also used the appropriate colors and shades such as the bold black for the train and the mixture of yellow, purple and white to create a somewhat look of an evening sky.

This painting shows formal Qualities because the artist has showed Emphasis on Unity such as the choice of colors, he chose soft colors like yellow and purple and combined it with values and bitter colors such as black, white and brown. The artist has blended the colors as if they are one color. He has also used different brush strokes to Emphasis different textures such as the railway bridge and the sky. The painting also gradually from the left corner to the right corner goes lighter to darker with the shades of colors.

This painting shows emotions and expressive qualities because of the colors the artist chose for example the purple and yellow colors convey a calm emostion for the sky as if to say everything is at peace. The lower half of the page shows anger to display that nobody is at peae. The artist has created a mood for people  so when they look at the art they can feel the peace and anger.
